Danger Zone
I like a little excitement in my life, but not the kind I had last week. Our neighborhood is unusual. Most of the development was built 50-60 years ago when homes were smaller and families owned one car. A farm, its farmhouse and … Continue reading

Before Hiring Someone to Start A Project
Owning three homes over the years and planning some extensive projects have put some experience behind me and taught me some valuable things. While I am by no means an expert on home owning or improvement, I humbly offer the … Continue reading

Four Walls
When I was 12 years old, my childhood family moved from the house I had lived in since birth to a new house about three blocks away. That’s me, helping my Dad shingle the roof of the new house. Even though … Continue reading

This is the basic list I started with for our remodel. I copied and pasted it from a website, but didn’t record the internet address so cannot reference it. It’s a good starting point for any project. ACCESSIBILITY RECOMMENDATIONS WHEN BUILDING … Continue reading

REMODEL – Master Bedroom and Closet
Before – this is the wall where the entrance to the old bath was. During: After: On the opposite wall, see where that door is in the picture below? That used to be where a window was, the very window … Continue reading

REMODEL – Kitchen, The Window
I know a lot of people today like an “open floor plan”, but having three children (and the noise that comes with them) has taught me that doors and walls have advantages. When I contemplated a new kitchen design, I … Continue reading

THE GARAGE – My House
I sure liked my house, but my house wasn’t loving me back. Something had to be done. With my physical abilities decreasing, the entrances, hallways and doorways were becoming obstacles for me; and certainly wouldn’t be workable long-term. My husband … Continue reading
